Why I founded Opulance Roofing Cheshire

After many years working in the roofing industry, I saw first-hand how things were often done the wrong way — rushed jobs, poor communication with clients, and a lack of real care or attention to detail. With a strong background in roofing and a natural eye for precision, I knew there had to be a better way of doing things. That’s why I made the decision to set up Opulance Roofing Cheshire — to do things differently, and to do them properly.


From day one, my goal has been to offer a personal, premium service at a fair and reasonable cost. I believe that homeowners and developers deserve more than just a quick fix or a “standard” job — they deserve real professionalism, open communication, and a finished product that’s built to last. Every project we take on, no matter how big or small, is approached with care, attention, and pride in the quality of our work.


Another major reason for starting the company was to create a safe and respectful working environment — not just for our clients, but for our team as well. Health and safety is something we take seriously, and I wanted to build a company where standards are high, the team is valued, and the customer experience is as smooth and stress-free as possible.

My Journey as a Roofer

My journey in roofing began over 26 years ago, when I started as an apprentice with a reputable local company. I spent five hands-on years completing my apprenticeship — learning the trade from the ground up, working on-site every day, and quickly discovering that I had a natural talent and passion for roofing. Even in those early days, I took immense pride in the quality of my work, and it didn’t take long for me to realise that this was more than just a job — it was a craft I wanted to master.


After eight years in the trade, I set myself a clear goal: to become one of the very best roofers in the industry. While I had learned a lot from my first company, I knew I needed to push myself further — to gain specialist skills in traditional slating and lead work that weren’t part of my day-to-day role at the time. I began researching companies known for their excellence in these areas and eventually found a specialist roofing firm — not exactly close to home, but worth the long commute. I applied, got the job, and committed to the challenge, knowing the experience would shape the roofer I aspired to be.


I spent the next 5–6 years working alongside some of the most highly skilled tradesmen I’ve ever met. Every day was an opportunity to learn and perfect my craft, particularly in high-end traditional roofing. That period was a real turning point for me — not only did I refine my technical ability, but I also developed a deeper appreciation for precision, pride, and heritage in roofing.


Eventually, I made the leap to go self-employed — and my work quickly gained attention. My reputation grew, and before long, I was approached by a well-known and successful local developer working on a luxury housing project in Cheshire. He recognised the passion and quality in my work, and from there, a strong professional relationship — and friendship — was formed. He taught me the importance of building a brand and delivering not just high-end workmanship, but a high-end customer experience.


And that’s how Opulance Roofing Cheshire was born — out of a passion for roofing, a commitment to excellence, and a desire to raise the standard of what a roofing company can be. It’s more than a business to me — it’s the result of decades of dedication, growth, and a drive to be the best at what I do.
